I have an AA Degree, BA Degree, Credential courses in Special ED, CBEST, CSET and RICA. No student teaching. (Long Story). Experienced Aide and Substitute Teacher.
1. Will the university accept prior coursework from another credential program?
2. How is the student teaching component met?
3. How can I find out the failure rate of the student teaching requirement.
Please help.
I said I didn’t have my student teaching requirement. Not, that I would not do it. Please read carefully.
Most universities will accept prior coursework, although I would check with the university first as it might vary depending on how the school is ran.
Student teaching is pretty much a must have. I doubt any state would okay a person for teaching licensure without having a teaching experience (substitute teaching doesn’t count due it’s lack of actually being a consistent teaching experience with the same students over the course of several months).
Not sure about the third question
Best bet would be to look around at local colleges in your area and talk with them about what is needed. Some schools have licensure programs where, as long as you have a degree, you just have to complete a few classes and a teaching experience to get your licensure.
Another possibility is to check through your state and see if they offer Alternative Licensure through their Department of Education.
