Then we would have a nation of socially-maladjusted children who would be great at video games, and some very rich for-profit companies.

All alternatives should be open for examination.

The ones that are honest enough to point out the flaws and areas in need of development deserve a fair hearing.

The ones that only present a rosy picture of success are suspect.

Won’t work. Parents don’t have enough control of the kids to insure they do assignments. The most guilty probably being the conservatives. But to be fair, they do tend to abort less.

75% of new students entering college in New York City need remedial help or else they could not handle the college level work.

Imagine if they were left alone to their own devises??

ALEKS is a damn good web site that I use to supplement my kid’s public schooling “education.”

I am convinced of the effectiveness of this method, and after reviewing the program I think it could stand alone without a teacher.

They always could. The big problem is the motivation and discipline.

The private for profit schools look good because they can kick out any one they want. But public schools by law have to accommodate every child that is in their district.

Up until now, the for profits have either improved reading and math scores, or have shown a profit. They have never done both.
When both do happen then your theory will work. Until then we must stick with the status quo.

Oh that’s just what the world needs, a bunch of little consumer robots programmed for anything but critical thought by a capitalist system and insulated from social contact.
Do you really hate the future of your country that much?
