You probably should have actually went to college, not online!

If you want a job that hires people based on technical skills (not education), then UoP is probably OK… as long as they’re teaching you the skills you need. If you wanted a job that requires an actual degree, UoP probably won’t help you. I’d recommend switching to a community college or another program, hopefully the CC can transfer your UoP credits towards an accredited degree.

I agree with Girly in that there is no substitute for attending live classes at a real college or university. I know it is not as convenient but the interaction with other students and teachers, as well as the networking possibilities, are not just available sitting in your room on line and are 60-70% of the education. Further, I look at resumes all the time and I look for the commitment and discipline of someone who went to a college in person and got their degree. I am not overly impressed with resumes from on-line colleges and I simply ignore that part of the resume and focus on other experience and development attributes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are many who got their degree from Phoenix and went on to be successful but I bet much of it was based on other experience not just the degree.

UoP is fully accredited by the USDoE….. if they accept your GIBill, believe me, they are accredited…. the govt will not pay for attendance at non-recognized institutions. So much for the other comment.

Now, you get out of an education what you put into it. UoP is fine, but SOME employers will reject the degree. It is one of those things. I know several people who got a degree there and are doing JUST fine. good jobs, good paychecks..

a word about all the horrible things one reads on public anonymous sites: only those who are really happy and those who are really NOT happy post things. Happy people do not go to ripoffreports.com….. Thus, your data sampling may be skewed. Filter what you read……

The issue with the University of Phoenix is that not all employers are ready to accept or recognize them and give them the credence or credit they will afford a “brick and mortar” school. Another reason the UoP is not as recognized is because it is a for-profit school, meaning they are in the business of enrolling students and keeping them enrolled, and they may have an open enrollment meaning anyone can get accepted and attend. The only people I know in person who have attended UoP did so to attain their masters, and it worked for them. I don’t know of anyone who received an AA or a BA through UoP. Good luck to you, and congratulations for making the tough decision to work full time, raise kids AND go to school.
