First of all, go to a school that is accredited. You will get the most financial aid at an accredited school. Most tech schools are not accredited.

Second, financial aid is not based on your credit. The Pell Grant, which everyone under a certain income can get, will most likely pay for your entire education and then some. After that you can apply for student loans, which If I remember correctly, is not based on credit either.

Go to an accredited school and ask to speak to a financial aid counselor for more information.

first of all, make sure your school accepts FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID. Call the school and ask. If they don’t then you cannot get a grant to go to that school.

If your school does accept federal aid, then you need to:
1.) apply to the school
2.) Fill out a FAFSA

this can be done at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. all you need to do to complete it is have your SSN and any records of what you earned for a given year.

-go to fafsa.ed.gov
-click on ‘fill out your FAFSA’
-If you are staring school BEFORE June 2010 then select 2009-2010 FAFSA. This FAFSA is based on the income u made in 2008. get out your 2008 taxes, W2’s, or pay stubs if you have them as you will need to claim how much money u earned that year.
-If you are starting school AFTER June 2010 then select 2010-2011 FAFSA. This FAFSA is based on the income u made in 2009. Get any records of what u earned that year.

continue w the form. first few pages are just general contact info. once u get to the ’student income’ section put in the income you made for the year it is questioning. if u didnt work then put 0 under adjusted gross income.

if you are receiving workers comp, disability, veterans benefits, or child support then you will need to put down the total amount of what you earned through these programs when it asks. if u did not have any of this put 0.

as you finish the FAFSA it will ask for a ’school code’. putting in this code will allow you to send ur FAFSA to the school so they can take any federal aid from the govt on ur behalf. if you dont know ur school’s code then call them up and ask for their FAFSA code or search the school’s name on the FAFSA.

submit your FAFSA when done. After a few weeks your school will have an ‘award letter’ for you which will state how much money you are able to get from the government. this could be grants (free money) or loans. you do not need to do a credit check to get these loans.

the full amount of federal grant money that u can get is $5350 per year. you may get money from your state government too but this varies.

federal grant money alone will not cover the yearly tuition for your school alone, as it costs over $5000 a year. you may need to take out a loan or see if there are any scholarship programs in your area that will help you out.

hope this has helped.
