At most schools, valedictorian is a trophy because there are a lot of people to compete with to be top of the class. It seems like this isn’t really the case at your school, so I think that they are just carrying out a tradition. It may not mean much, but be proud! You’ll get to tell your kids/grandkids that you were valedictorian and not a lot of people get to say that.

its not…its great for you that you’re valedictorian! congrats, u should feel lucky. at my school. im in a class of over 600. i am ranked 20…its not bad, i went from one to 14 to 20 all because of my credits. at my school, people cheat the system by taking full hour study halls and taking like band pass fail so they dont get a credit for it. then, their GPA goes up. so they took like stupid, no credit classes while i worked my butt off in all honors, including several electives, and no lunch. – i took all honors and AP other than classes i had to take that didn’t have an honors weighted option like spanish, other electives, etc. so my gpa went done, and in turn, my class rank went down too. because my school is in a competitive district with high acheiving students, the higher your rank is, the better chance you’ll have at getting in…being in the top 5% like me is pretty beneficial. however, theyre gonna take away class rank in my school district which im super happy about to prevent this cheating and just to make people feel better about themselves. wouldn’t it suck to be last? colleges are gonna look at the school you go to and the status of it as compared to another school so someone who goes to like Culver Academy or Illinois Math and Science Academy who is valedictorian probs has a better chance of getting into good schools than you might, but idk where you go and stuff. anyway sorry for my ranting, i hope it kinda answers your question:)))))
