This sounds to me like the 21st century equivalent of a form letter. Don’t read too much into this.

Universities regularly do ‘list buys’ which is one of many marketing strategies used to contact potential students. Somewhere along the line, you indicated an interest in art as a college major on a testing form, inquiry card or some other method of gathering info about you (like the AP art course.) That info was then funneled on to a list which was purchased by the school…and BAM…you are now on their list.

You are correct, this is no different than the countless other enrollment ads you receive, it’s just in an email format.

You can set your computer to send this school’s email to your spam account or you can call them and request your name be removed if you are not interested in the school. Or, you can follow up if you are still interested.

The personal web page, btw, is another marketing strategy to increase your interest in the school by trying to have you imagine yourself as a real student. As long as the website is secure, your personal information is private.
