Yes, you can go all the way to a Doctorate degree in nursing if that’s where you want to go with it.

You can get your RN license with the Associate’s Degree, get to work, find an employer that will offer tuition assistance to help pay for you to complete your BSN (which these days can be done online if you choose), or find a RN to Masters degree, which skips about 1 year of the BSN program and you end up with your MSN instead, where you can focus in any number of areas, such as an MSN in Leadership / Management, you could be a Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist or a Nurse Educator, you could specialize in Public Health Nursing, etc. Nursing is a great career because of all the possibilities that are available to you, it’s such a diverse career, there are so many things to do other than regular patient care in a hospital or clinic. Part of what you learn in your Assoc. degree RN program is about the wide variety of options.

In my opinion, tech schools are a waste of money and time. You do not get any type of degree and the credits can never be used at another institution. If you are planning on getting your associate’s degree and higher, don’t waste your time with the technical school. Because if you were to just take the prerequisites and classes at your community college for nursing, your credits will count and get you closer to the degree.

Also, technical schools normally don’t accept financial aid. They want cash or credit card up front to even attend. So it’s way better to go to a community college. Check your local county colleges and see what their nursing programs are like, and pick one. The credits will transfer over if you decide to go to a University and pursue your Bachelor’s degree down the road…

Good luck :)
