Criminal Investigator? Yes, unfortunately, these online degrees are viewed as worthless in a lot of employers’ eyes. I know that sucks, since you either know the material or you don’t. Still, many of these online colleges are not accredited, rendering them worthless.

Two things you should do: I’m assuming you are in Florida, so call the State Board of Regents and ask them about Everest’s accreditation. Also, call companies that you are thinking about working for and ask them if they would hire someone who has obtained the same degree you are thinking about pursuing. This latter action also helps you get a foot in the door, as they will know your name. They could even offer you a job that would give you hands-on experience to compliment your studies.

I got my Bachelor’s Degree at UGA, but I attended community college for the first two years at a state acreditted school. I took a semester of online courses there, and all you had to do was show up for midterm and final exams. Two days out of the semester wasn’t too bad, and I feel that I learned just as much as I would have sitting in class. Other advantages are more time with your kids, and saving a load of money in fuel expenses.

The only thing I would warn you about is that some of the classes were damned difficult! You could ask questions through email and online chatroom type classes, but still, sometimes you need the teacher there with you. You can always form a study group at your house with other students.
