I personally would avoid online math classes because I do a lot better in math from seeing a professor teach it to me, having the opportunity to talk to that prof if needed, and physically being in class to see the homework explained, especially if I did not understand the problem. Yeah, I’ve had to teach myself math because of bad professors, but at least I heard the small semblance of explanation they gave.

In your case, another reason I would prefer in class is because you’ve been away from math for so long. But, when you were in school did you do good in math? If no, in class is def the way to go. If yes, is there a way for you to brush up on the basic concepts you will need for the class you are taking? Also, do you have to take the class this semester or can you wait till next semester when it might be offered at a better time for you?

Ultimately, this is up to you and how you learn. An online class could have a lot of advantages. Along with being more convenient and fitting in with your work schedule, it could potentially make it easier for students to ask the professor questions. (But that all depends on how the professor sets up the online class). I know that I, personally, am afraid to ask questions in front of everyone in a lecture class, so using e-mail or asking questions virtually is a great option for me.

Again, it depends on you, as well as the professor’s effectiveness. But do know that while online classes do not have face-to-face contact, you are still able to ask people for help.

If you do decide to take the class online, eLearners has a great resource guide full of how-tos, related to success in an online class. Here is a link on how to prepare for your first online class, if you choose to do that.

Good luck with your decision!

Well not sure what you may expect but ill share my experience. Was doing HR diploma in stonebridge (online) there was NO absolutely NO support and they were more interested to sell you something then answer questions and students that were login in to forums etc. eventually were leaving cause there was no support. Now im studying at eden-institute.eu and i have lot of support from tutors, students and admins. On their virtual campus as well as person-to-person. The catch is even as online student im same as full-time student , i visit them often to use library and sometimes to meet tutors. So check what the college you are interested has to offer to you. maybe they aren’t bad, maybe they are great!? How would you know?
