I am 16 years-old, and currently a sophomore in high school. I’m attending a public school, but I can’t stand that environment any more.
Last year, I completed my second semester online with Primavera. I would gladly use their program again, but unfortunately I no longer live in Arizona. My family can’t afford to pay for expensive online high school courses, but I really cannot go back to a public school.
I make straight A’s and take advanced courses, but the environment is very immature and unfocused. I find it difficult to deal with the hostile, racy, dramatic social environment that seems to dominate the campus.
I live in North Carolina, and wanted to know if there are any good online schools out there available for free to NC residents. Are there any good, accredited programs out there for free?
Should I get my GED instead? Are there restrictions with this?
Any suggestions are very much appreciated. I want to know my options, and my school is not being very supportive.
I honestly cannot just suck it up and go to my public high school. I’m just more of a distance-learner.
Thanks!
I tried NCVPS, and they aren’t accredited. My mom called them and they said that their classes aren’t really for full-time students, but are to be used to supplement a regular public high school education. I really wish I could use their program full-time, though, as I enjoyed working with the Blackboard software online last year with Primavera, and they use that software.
If there aren’t any free online programs, how would I go about earning a legitimate high school diploma, without having to go to a brick-and-mortar school?
My mother works full-time, so would I be able to self-teach?

This is the site for North Carolina Virtual Public School. It might be a good place to start.
