The best place to start learning about Automation and PLCs is on the job. There is so much more to know than just how to write a ladder program. Apply for experiential learning at an automation company or system integration company.

Get a back ground in electrical engineering before you start this if you are coming from high school. You will be wasting your time and money with a distance learning course – if you are able to find one.

I learn more by sitting down with a new PLC and a manual. This is where you learn tricks of the trade. If you might be able to get site experience you work at a system integration company. This is very valuable…
