I’ve been looking at application fees for colleges on college board, and I’ve noticed a couple that say “regular” applications cost this much, but online applications are free. Is there a difference between the two? Why make online ones free? Wouldn’t everyone just apply online?

I know that some colleges allow seniors to apply early so that they can find out if they got accepted into the college sooner than the regular applicants. From what I understand, early decision gives you notification sometime in January while regular applications tell you if you are accepted sometime in the Spring.
