Please help, I get huge marks deducted for having even a second over three minutes, I’m trying to get it 2 minutes 58 secs, or 59 secs. I think everything I’ve currently got is important, I dunno . What do you think? My speech is on animal cruelty, I’m just over 3 minutes and that’s with me reading fast… Anyways here’s my speech:
Imagine this: You are part of you’re city’s animal cruelty prevention organization. Today is you’re first day on the job and you have just gotten a phonecall. You drive to the house and step out of you’re car, with some unease you approach the door and knock . With no answer you start to look around and notice the lawn is overgrown and there is glass and other litter all around. After you are sure no one is going to answer the door you search round back . You gasp at the first dog, it is chained up and missing an eye. With one glance it is obvious the dog is infested with ticks, fleas and other parasites . It’s back is scarred with deep wounds that have decayed and are attracting flies. The little remaining fur is matted into the wound so badly that the creature can barely move. No food is visible, only an old water dish full of stagnant water. You look closer and see another dog, it is lying on it’s side and as you approach the smell makes you gag. It is the smell of death, the dog has been dead for possibly weeks. Theres not much you can do right this very minute , only discuss it with you’re colleagues when you return back to work. So you return to you’re car and drive off.You are now sitting at the traffic lights and you are starting to think — ”This is horrible” It is, Man Vs. Wild . Good morning English peers and Miss ___, today I’m going to be informing you about the disturbing truth of animal cruelty.
There are many types of animal cruelty but the most prominent is passive and active cruelty. Passive cruelty is where animals are neglected or abandoned .when checking for passive cruelty look for signs like no sign of everyday nececessties like food and water, illness or the animal is being forced to stay outside in extreme weather conditions. On the 18th May 2009 on a warm day a man left his dog in his car for four hours as he shopped away , Four hours later the police found him in the owners car with a temperature of 110 degrees the man was prosecuted with a jail sentence of 6 months for passive cruelty but the dog still had to die… The other type is active cruelty this is where a person deliberately goes out of their way to scare or cause harm to an animal. Signs of active cruelty are very serious and should be considered signs of psychological problems. On the 11th January 2010 Herald online published a rather disturbing article about a 7 month old orange tabby named Timothy whose paws and nose was glued to the pavement of the southern Minnesota highway . On the 18th of December 2009 a motorist heading west spotted Timothy and collected him. A week later and poor Timmy passed if the passer didn’t collect Timothy he mightn’t of even had that extra week. Ever since 2000 the RSPCA has received a total of 20,000 animals. If an average family has four family members that 5000 families!
In Australia cruelty to animals is a criminal offense prosecutes will be jailed for 6 months or fined for $5,500 , and for aggravated cruelty jailed for 6 years or fined $22,000.You can also be like that anonymous cat rescuer if not that title a decent person! We can’t control people but we can help decrease animal cruelty by reporting anything suspicious or inhumane we see. Animals shelters like Animal Welfare League, WIRES, RSPCA and ORRCA are all animal rescue centers who we can contact and most of them are open 24/7 . If you are witnessing a mistreatment to an animal and you need urgent help contact the police. We need to stand up for what we believe in and help speak for those
who can’t speak for themselves. Every dog is a mans best friend so why would you try to hurt you’re best friend?
IMAGINE: You’re an animal cruelty prevention officer starting your first day of work. Your first animal cruelty call comes in. Arriving at an apparently abandoned house you begin to feel a sense of unease; tall grass, litter, and broken glass everywhere. No one answers the front door. You begin to search around the house after hearing a faint whine. In the back yard you come upon a scene of horror: a chained dog; sightless in one eye; fur matted; skin infested with parasites; open, seeping wounds and scars of a painful existence. No food, no water; nothing to keep the dog alive. Beyond this dog the horror deepens—the smell of death–a smell that makes you gag. This poor dog has been dead for weeks! The smell is decaying flesh! There is so little you can do at this time; so, you return to your car. You have to discuss this with your collegues at the office. Sitting at a traffic light you start to think……….*continue with your words.
