Online universities aren’t seen as real universities. Period.

Online Universities are hard to judge by future employers because its hard to measure the education received.

Most employers have the a negative perspective of online universities so I would be careful in investing money in that education.

Your better option is community college then transferring to a university program. Most community colleges are flexible and you just need to show your GED to sign up for classes in most cases.

If you decided to further your education online, at the end of the day you will be rewarded for learning new information, which might lead to a full time job.

Good luck

A waste of time and money.

Go to a real college and take online classes there over one of these online specific schools.

Obtaining an online degree can be a great option for some people, where the level of convenience and flexibility fits into their schedule. Capella University is one of the main online universities in the country. What is important with online universities is to make sure you research the degree program and make sure that the masters in counseling offered at Capella University is exactly what you want out of a degree.

I searched on eLearners.com, a resource website dedicated to providing information on online degrees and programs, and I found a:

Mini Guide to Earning an Online Counseling Degree
http://www.elearners.com/guide-to-online-education/guide-to-online-counseling-degree.asp

That will tell you what you need to know about earning an online counseling degree, so then maybe you can compare it to what Capella offers and see if that matches up with what you want. Another idea could be to compare Capella’s Master in Counseling to other programs. Here’s a listing of online programs in masters in counseling offered at various online universities and programs.

Hope that helps!
Good luck!

You may not have realized it but many four year brick and mortar colleges and universities offer online degrees!

Many four year colleges and universities do not differentiate between a degree earned online and a degree earned on-campus. It can be your little secret, if you so desire.

Many of these campuses also consider you to be an actual student so you get the best of both worlds: college at your convenience and the chance to use on-campus resources like the library or student center. Many also let you take a combination of online and on-campus classes so you can mix it up a little.

While the list below is for online Bachelor Degrees, many of these colleges also have degrees that go higher and might be a great start to find what you need (your Masters).

If you are organized, independent, and self motivated, online college can be a great way to go.
