It’s not a scam, but it’s not an honor either. They buy lists of student names and send those ‘invites’ to everyone on the list. You were not nominated. It’s basically a very expensive tour marketed towards kids. The trips cost between $3,000 and $10,000 per person. Your entire family could take the trip themselves for the cost of just sending you with these groups. If your family has the money lying around and nothing better to do with it, and you want to go, then go, you’ll probably have fun. But very few families can afford sending their kids, and they should not be taking out loans, borrowing money from others, or begging friends and relatives for money. It’s a very expensive vacation, and won’t do anything at all for a college application.
