A good part of the value of a regular college or university degree lies in the fact that the individual had the personal discipline to attend classes for four years and to study in order to pass all the courses. Most employers are looking for “the whole person” rather than knowledge, so a 4 year degree will almost always be considered far more valuable.
My personal opinion is that they are worthless.
The life experience itself is valid and valuable. There’s absolutely no point buying a piece of paper that pretends it’s a degree, though. It’s something worthwhile in a different way.
Is the online university an accredited academic institution? If so, the degree will be recognized as valid certainly. But what will it be worth in the eyes of someone who is comparing that degree to one from Harvard University or Oxford University or Trinity College? I think that’s the harder question to answer, and it might be the more important question to answer before you commit time and money to pursuing an online diploma.
